Dan Kramer is the Director of the International Studies Office and oversees Education Abroad, the International Students & Scholars Program, the Lorna Sundberg International Center, and the Center for American English Language & Culture. Prior to joining UVA, he was the Director of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program at the Institute of International Education (IIE) and worked closely with other key stakeholders – including the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), Fulbright Commissions, U.S. Embassies, and U.S. and international universities – on recruitment, selection, the pre-departure preparation, and in-country support of ca. 2,000 participants in over 130 countries. Dan is delighted to be back in the university setting again, after having worked in academia for over a decade as a faculty member – teaching, conducting research, and directing study abroad programs. He was the beneficiary of the Fulbright, DAAD, and other international scholarship programs. Dan comes from a small town of less than 200 in rural Minnesota where he worked as a licensed insurance agent while doing his undergraduate work at St. John’s University in Minnesota, before earning his MA from the University of Wisconsin in Madison and Ph.D. from Harvard.

Student International Travel Considerations
Non-US Passport Holders: UVA students who are not U.S. passport holders should consult ISSP FAQs and UVA Federal Information to understand how changes to U.S. immigration policy could affect them. This includes guidance on the June 4th Presidential Proclamation restricting entry to the United States for nationals of 19 countries.
Safety Considerations due to Conflict in the Middle East: The U.S. Department of State has issued a Worldwide Caution directing travelers with U.S. affiliations to exercise increased caution worldwide, especially in the Middle East. UVA students should not book flights that travel through a country with a University Travel Restriction, State Department Level 3 or 4, or other restriction. Consult the ISO's Travel Alerts, Notices & Warning page for details.
